The Promise of ‘Make America Great Again’From Exuberant Hope to Despondent Reality

There is a captivating, almost magnetic quality to a simple, powerful slogan. It has the potential to distill a nation’s complex anxieties and soaring aspirations into a single, resonant phrase. Such was the electrifying effect of “Make America Great Again.” When it first reverberated across the American political landscape, it was more than just a tagline; it was an incantation. It spoke to a deep-seated nostalgia, a collective yearning for a perceived golden age, promising not just a better future, but a restoration of a lost identity. It was a jubilant call to action, a banner under which millions rallied with a fervor and hope that seemed boundless, convinced that the simple act of repeating the phrase would somehow, magically, set the country on the right course once again.

However, behind the exuberant and powerful emotion of the slogan, lies a fundamental truth: "MAGA" was and is, an emotive slogan with the sole purpose of fulfilling a personal political ambition to occupy the White House once again. It never was, nor is it, about the often-stated objective of a national renewal. The appeal was, and remains, an emotional one, not a rational one, much like the “Garibi Hatao” (Remove Poverty) slogan of the Congress party in India since the 1970s. Most of us in this country can readily relate to how a political slogan, however grand its promise, can function as a potent tool for winning elections without a substantive plan to back it up. The slogan acts as a vessel for popular discontent and frustration, a powerful symbol that feels like a solution in itself.

If the goal were genuinely to “Make America Great Again,” it would have been anchored by a tangible roadmap, a multi-decade plan that would have been spoken about more extensively than the slogan itself. We would have heard of plans for the next five decades, not just the immediate future, which focused more on reducing expenditure or imposing tariffs. A serious agenda to reverse decades of economic globalization and voluntarily outsourced manufacturing would be a monumental undertaking. It would require a detailed, painful discussion about how to rebuild domestic supply chains, re-skill a generation of workers, and re-invest in infrastructure. Instead of such a detailed plan, the discourse was dominated by short-term, often contradictory, actions that were politically expedient but lacked the long-term vision necessary for such a profound transformation.

Furthermore, if the slogan truly represented a shared national project, the entire Republican Party would have owned the “MAGA” agenda. We would have heard elected officials and party leaders across the board speaking about the immense work required to bring manufacturing back onshore, not just one individual. Bringing manufacturing that was voluntarily outsourced for over two decades cannot return overnight. It is a slow, painstaking process that requires bipartisan commitment and a willingness to confront difficult realities. The fact that the entire party did not embrace this as a core, long-term policy objective provides enough evidence of its hollowness as a political brand rather than a true national movement.

Finally, a genuine policy of reshoring manufacturing would necessitate sensitizing the consumer base to the harsh realities of the transition. The public would need to be prepared for the higher prices, temporary disruptions, and short supply of products of daily use that would inevitably follow a large-scale shift in global supply chains. This vital step was not taken, because the narrative was not about sacrifice for a greater good; it was about painless victories and instant gratification. The entire exercise serves as overwhelming evidence of the claim's hollowness—just another slogan to win an election, made possible by political illiteracy. The roots of this belief have now gone so deep that it has become incredibly difficult to wean its fans back to the reality of harsh facts. The promise, once so bright and full of hope, now feels like a hollow echo, leaving a lingering sense of despondency.

Factory owners and operators evaluate prospective employees based on their skill sets, age, and wage expectations. Their primary goal is to minimize costs, maximize production, and generate profits for corporate shareholders. It is not their responsibility to provide immigration screening services at their facilities.

The Genie Is Out: Tariffs and the Inevitable Fall

The genie of tariffs, once released, cannot be returned to its bottle. Its effects, both profound and rueful, will be felt not just by the intended targets, but will confound logic and ripple across economies, societies, and international relations. It is a venture into a field where sanity is abandoned, for it is a field where logic dictates a thorough study of the profound impact on all involved - the target, the collaterals, and oneself - not merely in economic terms, but also in the delicate fabric of social, political, and foreign relations. Ah, yes. The profound economic wisdom of a real estate agent, a true beacon of hope in our complex world. It appears this veritable genius, having spent years perfecting the delicate art of staging homes and convincing people that a "cozy" one-bedroom is actually a "charming" studio, has now turned their formidable intellect to the trifling matter of a nation's economy.

I'm told the specific Ivy League school where this guru acquired such "profound knowledge" is located just past the rainbow bridge, in the mythical land of "Simple Solutions." This fabled institution, which I'm sure is a rival to Hogwarts, offers a singular, life-changing course: ECON 101: The One-Policy Fix. The professors, a dream team of economic visionaries—Mr. Bubble, Mr. Trickle-Down, Ms. Austerity, and Dr. Free Lunch—teach a

curriculum so revolutionary it completely bypasses messy things like historical data, human behavior, or inconvenient global markets. Their final exam is likely just a pop quiz on how to balance a nation's budget using nothing but a single, catchy slogan.

This realtor's masterful plan to solve a $37 trillion national debt is, as you might have guessed, a shocking revelation. It's a two-pronged strategy so simple, so elegant, that it has eluded every Nobel laureate and policymaker for generations. Step one: spend less. Yes, it's that easy. Who knew that a nation's fiscal problems could be solved by simply "tightening the belt," as if the entire country were a pair of ill-fitting trousers? Step two: attract business. Because, of course, businesses are like squirrels; they simply need a few nuts and a kind word to set up a new manufacturing plant and bring widespread prosperity. The idea that global supply chains, labor costs, and technological advancements are deeply entrenched issues that take decades to shift is, quite frankly, an inconvenient truth best left ignored.

So, while the rest of the world grapples with the messy realities of trade-offs and complex policy, we can all rest easy knowing a real estate agent has the key to our economic salvation. The only thing they can't seem to conjure is the prosperity, which, it turns out, can't be listed and sold like a suburban bungalow. Well, if you've looked around lately, from East to West and North to South, you've probably noticed it's not exactly a postcard-perfect world out there. It's more like a toddler's birthday party after someone discovered the sugar bowl and let's just say, the entire "system" has done less crumbling and more of a spectacular, face-first dive off a cliff. The grand palace? It's less of a stately ruin and more of a cosmic shrug, leaving the King scrambling to find a hiding spot—probably in the closet next to the emergency snacks.

But hold on to your hats, because a plucky little group of nations has decided they're not going to be part of this hot mess. They've huddled up like a bunch of nervous penguins and decided that rebuilding is for suckers. No, they're not putting Humpty Dumpty back together again. They're building a whole new Humpty, one that's shock-proof, crumble-resistant, and hopefully, less prone to dramatic falls. It's an entire system of their own, a little "no chaos here, thank you very much" bubble, designed to withstand the epic tantrums of the old world.

So, while everyone else is still trying to figure out if the sky is actually falling, this little band of international architects is busy putting together their own little utopia. All they need now is a "do not disturb" sign and a good lock on the front gate. He stands on the crumbling lip of a precipice, a figure of silent, desperate stillness. He is the realtor, and his footing is not merely tenuous—it is a betrayal of solid ground. Below him yawns a deep, lightless chasm, a maw of unknown depth waiting to consume him. Yet, his peril is not his alone. His every breath, his every muscle's tension, holds the fate of the entire industry. Should he falter, should he tilt forward even a hair’s breadth, the fall will not be solitary. He will drag the whole edifice of global commerce, the very pillars of prosperity and exchange, down into the abyss with him.

The Breathtaking Brilliance of Tariffs: How to Tax Your Own People for Fun and Profit

Tariffs, or import duties, are a foundational element of a nation's foreign trade policy. They represent a conscious decision by governments to regulate international commerce. At their core, tariffs serve as a starting point from which nations can adjust rates to achieve specific economic and political objectives.

Strategic Applications

Tariffs can be used to foster strategic alliances and express diplomatic favor by lowering duties for certain trading partners. Conversely, they can serve as a powerful tool to signal displeasure, with a rise in tariffs often reflecting a deterioration in international relations. Additionally, governments may implement targeted exemptions or reductions to support domestic consumers and businesses, either by making foreign goods more affordable or by shielding local industries from external competition. This dual-purpose—to protect domestic interests and to project foreign policy—underscores their significance.

Tariffs, like any economic tool, yield results based on their application by a government. While they can lead to positive outcomes, a lack of a proper strategy or game plan can lead to severe negative consequences. Such actions can hurt not only the countries on which the tariffs are imposed, but also the nation that imposes them.

The domestic economy can suffer, leading to a sharp decline in employment and a significant hit to the logistics industry. Consumers may also be negatively impacted as their favorite products become scarce or more expensive, disrupting their budgets and plans.

The widely held belief that tariffs are paid by foreign nations is fundamentally flawed and should be dismissed. In reality, tariffs are a tax paid by the importing country's own citizens and businesses. The financial burden is borne by the importers, who inevitably pass these increased costs on to domestic consumers through higher retail prices. Therefore, a government imposing tariffs is, in effect, taxing its own population.

This economic reality explains why tariffs are rarely an effective weapon for punishing other countries. They are more often a tool of domestic policy, typically employed as anti-dumping measures to protect local industries from foreign competition. A sound government implements tariff policies with a clear understanding of the benefits and drawbacks for its domestic industries, businesses, and—most critically—its consumers. Well, it's absolutely crucial to grasp the breathtakingly subtle brilliance of tariffs. After all, what could be more intuitive than building a wall to boost your economy? It's simply the most ingenious way to help an industry—by making sure it has absolutely no competition and therefore no incentive to innovate. It's a foolproof plan, really. Who needs progress when you can have protection?

And let's not forget the phenomenal friendships you forge. Levying a massive tax on your allies' goods is the fastest way to their hearts. Nothing says "we're in this together" quite like a financial slap in the face. It's a surefire way to unite the global community—by making everyone resent you equally.

Of course, the short-term spike in customs revenue is the real prize. A sudden, glorious blip on a spreadsheet that completely distracts from the subsequent death spiral of inflation and economic stagnation. Who needs sustainable growth when you can have a single, shining moment of fiscal glory?

Only the most naive, unimaginative policymakers resort to "negotiation." It's so much more efficient to simply say, "This is what we're doing, so deal with it." Who needs compromise and mutual respect when you can just demonstrate a complete lack of basic social skills? It's a bold, no-nonsense approach that ensures both parties walk away from the table feeling like they've been treated with the utmost contempt. And isn't that the real win?

The MAGA Wrecking Ball: Broken Promises and Global Fallout

The words “Make America Great Again” were a promise, a beacon of hope for a nation and a world yearning for a return to a more prosperous time. It was a compelling phrase that resonated deeply, not just with a hopeful electorate, but with nations across the globe who saw it as a new dawn for diplomacy and trade. But that hope soon soured.

The promise of renewed greatness was quickly overshadowed by the wrecking ball of tariff tantrums. A builder uses a trowel and mortar, but a wrecking ball and sledgehammer can only destroy. The elegant phrase, once a symbol of optimism, was lost in a maze of economic warfare. The vision of a revitalized manufacturing base, with factories humming to life, was a beautiful dream. Yet, the reality is a stark and painful one: rebuilding an industrial workforce and the infrastructure to support it is not a task for a single term, but a generational one—a process that requires decades, not years. The damage done in the name of MAGA is not easily undone.

The resulting fractures in global relationships are deep, perhaps even irreparable. The work of decades has been undone in a matter of years, leaving behind a legacy that will require Herculean effort from future administrations to mend. The world watches with a sense of profound sadness, as the very relationships that were once hailed as the "defining" ones of our time now stand on the brink of complete collapse. The world’s leading nation, in its bid for a tarnished form of greatness, has isolated itself, leaving behind a trail of broken trust and shattered alliances. The cost of this path, it seems, is one we have only just begun to pay.

The citizens of Bharat are understandably puzzled and more than a little restless regarding the latest tariff threats emanating from the Trump camp. The collective question on everyone's lips seems to be, "What do we have to do with the conflict in Ukraine?" After all, this particular crisis, as many see it, was set in motion by the U.S. and its NATO allies, whose persistent push to include Ukraine was met with a clear and consistent red line from Russia: no NATO on its doorstep.

This confusion is compounded by the past pronouncements of Donald Trump himself, who, not so long ago, publicly declared his deep affection for India, its people, and Hindus in particular. He even promised that "India and Hindus would have a true friend in the White House," a statement that, in retrospect, now feels like a quaint historical footnote.

One must wonder, what exactly went wrong? Where, when, and at whose hands did this supposed friendship curdle into constant scrutiny and the threat of tariffs—even punitive secondary ones—for the 'crime' of buying crude oil from Russia? The irony is not lost on us: it was the very same United States that, in 2023 and 2024, encouraged India to continue these purchases to help keep global crude prices stable. Yet here we are in 2025, suddenly being accused of profiteering from war, funding the conflict, and laundering funds for Russia. It seems a true friend's memory can be remarkably short when political winds shift.

Our very essence is one of quiet strength and civility, a testament to a civilization built on endurance. Our soft-spoken, polite nature is often mistaken for meekness or frailty. However, this is a profound misreading of our character. Our true power lies in our capacity to endure and persevere, a unique resilience that defines us.

When faced with a threat, we don't react with aggression or recklessness. Instead, we stand firm and double down on our resolve. We meticulously explore alternatives, war-game various scenarios, and prepare our options, keeping them open and ready. Our strategy is to patiently wear down our opponent, waiting for the most opportune moment and place to launch a counter-offensive. The surprise and intensity of this strike will leave our adversary gasping at our audacity.

The early years of India's independence were marked by a tentative but distinct diplomacy. While its first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, maintained a reserved stance toward the American people, his daughter, Indira Gandhi, later demonstrated a fleeting but powerful resistance during her dealings with President Richard Nixon and his Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger. This was a period when the U.S. leadership, caught in the throes of the Cold War and a desire to align with China through Pakistan, harbored a profound distrust of India. It was in this context that Kissinger, in a now-declassified conversation, uttered a derogatory word for Prime Minister Gandhi, an unsavory expression that soon became public knowledge. This incident, while a low point, underscored a clash of wills and values.

Yet, the true test of India's resolve came later, in 1998, with the nuclear tests conducted under the tenure of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In response, the United States swiftly imposed economic sanctions, aiming to cripple India's progress. But in an act of profound defiance, India did not break. It did not bend. Instead, it endured with a stoic resolve. The sanctions, intended as a punishment, inadvertently became a catalyst. They drove India toward a path of self-reliance, a journey it might not have otherwise embarked upon with such urgency. Ultimately, it was the United States that chose to re-engage, lifting the sanctions and acknowledging India's unyielding position on the global stage. This moment was not just a diplomatic victory; it was a testament to the nation's ability to transform adversity into a defining moment of its own history.

Now let us turn our attention to the relationship that was touted to be the “Defining relationship of the 21st century as per the public pronouncement by the four previous administration of the USA. Our GDP Based on data from Macrotrends and the World Bank, in 1998 was $421.35 billion the sanctions imposed not withstanding Atal Bihari Vajpayee's second and third terms as Prime Minister of India were from March 1998 to May 2004. During this period, the highest annual GDP growth rate for India was 8.85% in 1999.Now we have a GDP of USD 4trillion plus, we are the 4th largest economy of the world, add to this the fastest growing large economy of the world. This economy by no stretch of imagination can be termed a dead economy as President Donald Trump has, this did not elicit an angry retort from us, because we respond in a very measured & deliberate manner. This incumbent president will not be in office 3 years down the line, yet the future administrations will get the taste of our response. Such insults are not forgotten or forgiven, in fact they exact an unbearable cost, over a long duration of time. The defining relationship of the 21st century is shatter & the tiny bits are scattered all over the place, the onus is squarely on the USA to gather these tiny bits & rebuild the relationship as for us, the trust has been lost & it can’t be restored for all times to come. The tariffs imposed have not bothered us in fact our response has been very calm. Shipments of apparels which had already reached the shores of USA were recalled & redirected to other countries, we look for solutions not confrontations, Similar is the case of Seafood items we have identified new markets to sell our products, we are not dependent on a single market. Our exporters are now actively seeking out new markets to sell their products, these tariffs are proving to be a blessing in disguise. Diversified market reduces risks in International trade. The blow back is coming from us that is what the trump administration should brace itself for. the public is getting restive & will start reacting, I do not wish to speculate as to what the outcome shall be & what will be severity of this blow back. The public reaction is spontaneous & beyond the capacity of any democratically elected government to control, temper or restrain. The Deputy Chief of Army Staff in his statement had mentioned 4 adversaries that we simultaneously faced off against during Operation Sindoor. 3 were named and the 4th name was not mentioned. We are acutely aware of the 4th name. The recent nuclear threat held out to us from the American soil by the visiting Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan has not gone unnoticed, we fully understand the implications & the games that are currently being played.

We are prepared to meet any & every eventuality with our full might & prevail.  We are keenly observing the statements events & action, we will respond without anger in a very mature & measured manner, there is no backing off, backing down or bending. Tariff Tantrums by Trump will play out. Our response will be hard to counter & difficult to digest.

Here are two Screenshots from Def Talks By @AadiAchint. Analyse the two Screenshots they have more than enough evidence for all of us to understand why Bharat is receiving special mention & attention

It's a strange and sobering thought, but perhaps one of the most unexpected legacies of a certain American administration will be the unintended consequences of its foreign policy. The world was once a place of predictable alignments, but now, the landscape is profoundly altered.

The BRICS coalition, once a loose assembly of nations, has been forged into an undeniably strong and cohesive bloc. Similarly, the so-called Global South, previously a disparate collection of countries, has found a unified voice and a collective sense of purpose. Alliances like NATO, which once seemed unbreakable, now bear the clear marks of deep fractures, their trust in each other shaken. Meanwhile, some former competitors have not only survived but thrived, growing in strength and influence.

Perhaps most lamentable of all is the transformation of relationships that were once full of such promise. A proud and vibrant nation, previously an eager partner, now engages with a palpable sense of distrust. The door remains open, but the warmth and camaraderie have been replaced by a cautious distance. What was once hailed as a "defining relationship" has been reduced to a pragmatic and transactional one, a testament to how quickly confidence can be lost and how difficult it is to reclaim.

The Unseen Hand: Humanity's Constructs vs. Nature's Design

The Illusion of Control: Humanity's Manufactured Divides and Nature's Inevitable Reckoning

Humanity, in its ceaseless quest for order and dominion, has woven an intricate, yet ultimately ephemeral, web of constructs upon the Earth. Consider the equator, latitude, and longitude—mere figments of our collective imagination, etched onto the globe to guide our passage across seas and through skies. Yet, we've distorted even these benevolent tools, seizing upon the equator not merely as a navigational aid, but as an arbitrary demarcation, rending our singular Earth into manufactured halves.

Nature, in its pristine wisdom, provided two natural poles: the North and the South, embodying a fundamental duality and balance. Driven by insatiable greed, ego, and myriad compulsions, humanity has manufactured its own poles, creating artificial divisions and imbalances within the natural order. This self-inflicted divergence from nature's design stands as a profound philosophical indictment of our species.

This raises a crucial question: Why do humans expend colossal energy attempting to correct these disparities—often through ineffective, piecemeal measures—when Mother Nature is ultimately destined to restore equilibrium in her own time and manner? Nature, in its inherent and immutable wisdom, possesses an unparalleled ability to rectify the imbalances mankind so recklessly generates. This correction can manifest in dramatic, violent upheavals or in subtle, gradual shifts, often unfolding so imperceptibly that humanity fails to recognize the ongoing restoration. The "wheels of nature," though they "grind painstakingly slow," grind with an unflinching precision, leaving no truth unaddressed and no price unpaid. There is no escaping this fundamental law.

Consider the historical example of the Industrial Revolution in the West. Vast quantities of coal fueled unprecedented industrial growth. Did this consumption miraculously emit oxygen, or did it release the very carbon dioxide that now threatens the global climate, leading to the imposition of restrictions and carbon taxes on the developing world? This hypocrisy underscores the profound disconnect between human action, its inevitable consequences, and the ultimate reckoning by nature.

This perspective compels us to reflect on our place within the grand ecological tapestry. It challenges the anthropocentric view that posits humanity as the ultimate arbiter of its environment, instead highlighting our subservience to the unyielding forces of natural law. Our attempts to control and dominate nature often lead to greater disequilibrium, which nature will inevitably rebalance, often with consequences far beyond our current comprehension or control. The true wisdom, perhaps, lies not in striving against nature's current, but in learning to harmonize with its inherent rhythm and respect its enduring power.

The Missing Piece in the "Great Global Reset": Beyond Pragmatism to Profound Transformation

The prevailing discourse on the "Great Global Reset" and "New Global Order" frequently centers on a pragmatic, almost clinical, recalibration of systems:

Economic Rebalancing: From a unipolar to a multipolar financial landscape, with discussions on de-dollarization, new reserve currencies, and regional trade agreements.

Geopolitical Realignment: The rise of new alliances, the decline of old hegemonies, and the constant jostling for influence in a more fragmented world.

Technological Transformation: The impact of AI, quantum computing, and bio-engineering on industries, labor, and societal structures.

Environmental Imperatives: The urgent need for sustainable practices and climate action.

However, the absence of a universal commitment to equitable prosperity over inherent exploitation is indeed the silent, yet most significant, missing piece. The historical pattern of nations achieving "personal benefits at the cost of other nations, big and small," has been the bedrock of previous world orders. What is often unarticulated is that a truly "new" global order, one that genuinely departs from the cycles of exploitation, would require:

A Redefinition of "Prosperity": Moving beyond purely GDP-driven metrics to a holistic understanding of well-being that includes ecological health, social equity, cultural preservation, and individual dignity. True prosperity cannot be built on the impoverishment of any segment of humanity or the planet.

An Ethic of Interdependence, Not Just Competition: While competition is natural, an enduring global order demands a recognition that the long-term well-being of any nation is inextricably linked to the well-being of all. The "jostling for space" must evolve into a collaborative pursuit of shared solutions, especially for global challenges like climate change, pandemics, and economic instability.

Dismantling Inherited Structures of Disadvantage: This isn't just about new agreements, but about actively addressing the legacies of historical exploitation, unequal trade terms, and debt burdens that continue to shackle many developing nations. It requires a willingness from historically dominant powers to re-evaluate their positions and contribute to genuine restorative justice, not merely aid.

Empowerment from the Ground Up: The "new trend to stand up against exploitation" is crucial. It signifies a growing awareness and assertion of agency from those historically marginalized. A truly profound reset would empower these voices, integrating their perspectives and needs into the very architecture of the new global order, rather than merely accommodating them within pre-existing frameworks. This implies a shift from top-down imposition to bottom-up participation.

A Moral Compass for Technology: Rapid technological advancements, while offering immense potential, also present new vectors for exploitation (e.g., data colonialism, algorithmic bias, monopolistic control of critical technologies). A profound reset would embed ethical considerations and principles of equitable access and benefit-sharing at the heart of technological governance.

This unpretentious perspective highlights a crucial element for a genuinely equitable future: the burgeoning, grassroots-level resistance to historical patterns of exploitation. This rising tide of resistance, whether it manifests in demands for fair trade, environmental justice, or equitable access to resources and technology, is perhaps the most hopeful and transformative aspect of the current global recalibration. It's precisely the kind of insight that mainstream geopolitical thought often overlooks, coming instead from the perspective of a common citizen who observes the profound shifts beneath the surface.

A World Divided: Hope and Trepidation in a Shifting Global Order

As events unfold on the world stage, a clear schism emerges in the global response. On one side stand nations gripped by profound concern, apprehension, and a sense of impending trepidation. They observe the unfolding drama with an acute awareness of the potential ramifications for their established status and influence within the international community. For these countries, the stakes are high, and the possible outcomes threaten to disrupt a familiar world order they have largely shaped and benefited from.

Conversely, a second group of nations views the same events with a palpable sense of optimism and bright expectations. They envision a future where these developments usher in an era of improved economic conditions, significant national development, and a newfound voice on the global stage. These countries, long subjected to rules and systems crafted without their genuine consent and often perceiving themselves as exploited under the guise of "world order," eagerly anticipate a more democratic and equitable landscape. They aspire to freely engage in trade with partners of their choosing, utilizing their preferred currencies, unburdened by dictates or the constraints of a financial system in which they have no meaningful say.

This divergence highlights a fundamental tension between those seeking to preserve the existing power structures and those yearning for a more inclusive and just global framework. The unfolding events are not merely a series of incidents; they are a crucible in which the future balance of power and the very definition of global order are being forged.

In this world grappling with complex challenges and a volatile environment, one nation deftly navigates a treacherous minefield, maintaining a delicate balance without resorting to chest-thumping or self-aggrandizement. This player, striving for an equitable distribution of development across all sectors, is Bharat. It stands as both the catalyst for change and the great balancer amidst these trying circumstances.

Story of Bharat: From Re-emergence to Resurgence

Credit for this image : @ssaratht

Across the globe, I seek a comparable narrative, but the epic journey of Bharat remains singularly profound. For millennia, the land of Bharat stood as a beacon of global prosperity. From the dawn of the Common Era to the cusp of the 18th century, its economic might was unparalleled, often commanding a quarter, and at times, even a staggering 30-35% of the world's GDP. By 1600 AD, as the world braced for industrial transformation, Bharat still accounted for a substantial 24.4% of global wealth. This extraordinary affluence, woven into the fabric of daily life, predated the seismic shifts of the Industrial Revolution and the shadows of colonial rule. The tapestry of Bharat's golden age began to fray with the first significant Islamic incursion in 712 AD, led by Muhammad bin Qasim's conquest of Sindh. What followed was not a singular event, but centuries of relentless waves of invasion that reshaped the subcontinent. From the early medieval period through the mid-18th century, this era witnessed an unparalleled brutality. While precise figures remain a subject of fervent historical debate, accounts from the invaders themselves suggest a cataclysmic loss of life, potentially numbering in the hundreds of millions. The widespread rape, murder, plunder, and forced conversions of this period etched an indelible scar upon the land.

Yet, the suffering did not cease with the fading of Islamic dominance. The arrival of European colonizers heralded another chapter of ruthless exploitation, equally brutal in its pursuit of power and resources. Amidst these trials, the spirit of Bharat was far from meek. Our history is a testament to fierce, unyielding resistance against both Islamic and European subjugators. However, the absence of a unified nation-state, as we understand it today, proved to be a critical vulnerability. A myriad of princely states, often consumed by internecine rivalries, became unwitting instruments in their own undoing. These self-serving "dwarfs," a stark contrast to the mighty Chandragupta Maurya and the grandeur of the Mauryan Empire, prioritized short-sighted political gains over the collective well-being of the land. The glorious past of Bharat faded, leaving behind a mere shadow of its former magnificence. The tragic partition of 1947, which further fragmented the land and claimed millions of lives, birthed an independent India. Yet, the political elite who seized power often mirrored the colonizers they replaced, differing only in the color of their skin. For decades, this new leadership perpetuated a cycle of impoverishment and illiteracy, transforming a once thriving Bharat into a pale, unlettered imitation of its former self. Brief interludes offered fleeting glimpses of change, but the core essence of the "political royalty" remained, a diluted echo of colonial mindsets.

A profound tectonic shift began in 2014. The ascension of a Prime Minister born of independent India, from the humblest of backgrounds, marked a turning point. What began as hesitant, almost imperceptible steps toward re-emergence has steadily gained an undeniable momentum. Initially dismissed as a fleeting phenomenon, this shift has steadily alarmed the entrenched political establishment, culminating in the consolidated mandates of 2019 and 2024. Despite fierce resistance, the groundswell of public support has proven insurmountable.

The natives of Bharat are witnessing the nascent glow of a new dawn. Their faith, deeply rooted in millennia of tradition and culture, has weathered centuries of invasion and exploitation, remaining undimmed. The yearning for a resurgent Bharat, a bond nurtured over millennia, not just decades or centuries, pulses with an unwavering strength – an unbreakable testament to the enduring spirit of this ancient land.

Bharat, is on an unyielding quest for excellence, constantly pushing boundaries without pausing to celebrate even minor victories. This relentless pursuit spans every conceivable domain: The current focus on economic advancement is just one step in a grander strategy. It's envisioned that this will be swiftly followed by a surge in defense capabilities, then a profound transformation in medicine and healthcare, a revolution in education, and significant strides in the social sector. Simultaneously, there will be a continuous refinement of governance, ensuring efficiency and equity. Once the more immediate and tangible challenges—the "low-hanging fruits" like exploring the depths of our oceans—are addressed, India's gaze will turn decisively upwards. The ultimate frontier, outer space, beckons. Rather than waiting for others to lead, India aims to pioneer its own cosmic journey, echoing the spirit of our rishis who sought knowledge and understanding of the universe. This journey is not merely about exploration, but about an endless pursuit of wisdom and capability across all frontiers.

The road ahead is not one of ease, but a crucible where our resolve will be forged. We must brace ourselves for an arduous journey, one where every step will be met with formidable challenges designed to test the very fiber of our being. While setbacks are an inevitable part of this natural process, they are not endpoints but rather crucibles for growth. Our grit, unwavering patience, inherenabilities, evolving capabilities, and innovative problem-solving will be the compass and the shield that guide us.

Yet, within the heart of every challenge lies the seed of an unparalleled opportunity. These are the moments when we can unlock profound benefits, not just for our nation, but for the entirety of humanity. This endeavor resonates deeply with our timeless philosophical conviction, "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam  वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम" — the world is one family. It is through this shared struggle and collective triumph that we will truly embody that profound truth.

Fourth Pillar of a Democracy: People or Media?

Democracy, famously defined as "by the people, of the people, for the people," inherently places the people as its most critical element. Every democratic constitution explicitly delineates the powers and functions of its three branches of government: the Legislature, the Executive, and the Judiciary. Therefore, the four foundational pillars of any democracy are:

People: As the ultimate sovereign, the people form the bedrock of democracy. They exercise their power through participation, elections, and by holding their representatives accountable. Their informed consent and active engagement are paramount.

Legislature: This body is responsible for creating laws, representing the will of the people, and providing oversight of the executive branch. It is a constitutionally mandated institution with defined powers and procedures.

Executive: Tasked with implementing and enforcing laws, this branch typically includes the head of state or government and their administration. Its powers and limitations are clearly delineated within the constitutional framework.

Judiciary: This independent system interprets laws, administers justice, and ensures that the actions of the other two branches adhere to constitutional principles. It acts as a crucial check on governmental power and safeguards individual rights.

These four pillars are the structural bedrock upon which a stable and functional democracy stands. Each is designed to provide essential checks and balances on the others, preventing the concentration of power and safeguarding individual liberties.

The Media: was An Essential Watchdog, Not a Constitutional Pillar

The assertion that media is the "fourth pillar of democracy" is a pervasive misconception, often repeated without foundational support in constitutional frameworks worldwide. While the media's importance to a healthy democratic society is undeniable, its function differs fundamentally from the core, constitutionally enshrined pillars.

The media primarily acts as a conduit for information, delivering news, analysis, and diverse perspectives to the populace. Its vital functions include:

Scrutinizing government actions: By investigating policies, decisions, and potential misconduct, the media holds those in power accountable to the public.

Facilitating open discourse: It provides platforms for public debate, allowing various viewpoints to be heard and fostering informed discussion on critical issues.

Exposing corruption and abuses of power: An independent press is instrumental in uncovering wrongdoing, ensuring transparency, and prompting corrective action.

Providing citizens with information: From election coverage to policy analysis, the media equips the electorate with the knowledge needed to participate effectively in democratic processes.

However, the media has not always fulfilled these crucial tasks. We have witnessed instances where media figures have seemed to dictate political appointments from their studios and editorial rooms. The media has also, at times, acted as an opposition force while seemingly overlooking the misdeeds of the actual opposition.

This essential function, however, is distinct from the constitutional role of the foundational pillars. Labeling the media as the "fourth pillar" incorrectly elevates it to the same constitutional status as the legislature, executive, and judiciary. Unlike these three, the media is not a constitutionally mandated body with defined governmental powers and responsibilities within the state's structure. Its influence stems from its ability to inform and shape public opinion, not from an inherent governmental authority or a formal place in the system of checks and balances. The media's power lies precisely in its independence and its capacity to inform, challenge, and hold power accountable from outside the formal structures of the state, rather than being an intrinsic part of the state apparatus itself. Its value is in its critical distance, not its integration into the governmental framework.

The Evolving Landscape of Public Information. The influence of legacy media, which for too long occupied a dominant position without consistent objectivity, credibility, or honesty, has waned significantly. A stark example of this decline in India dates back to the Emergency of 1975. When Indira Gandhi "asked it to bend," the media, by many accounts, "crawled." This was in stark contrast to the people of the country, who largely "stood tall and firm" against the brutality unleashed during that period.

Today, the role of informing the public no longer solely rests with traditional outlets, largely due to the rise of social media. Social platforms facilitate direct interaction between citizens and their elected representatives, often bypassing the traditional media filter. For instance, proposed legislation is now frequently presented to the public for suggestions even before it's introduced in Parliament, fostering more direct engagement. This direct engagement also means the public isn't driven by the "TRP races" that often plague legacy media.

There's a strong argument that legacy media can be inherently susceptible to corruption. The power wielded by editors in deciding what is broadcast or suppressed creates opportunities for monetization. In this environment, it's often more lucrative to suppress certain news items than to broadcast them, further eroding public trust.

This is a prime example how media colludes with political personalities to fix interviews.

Let there be no doubt: the true Fourth Pillar of Democracy resides not with institutions, but with the people. Our vigilance is paramount, for to passively permit the media, or any other force, to lay claim to this title is to invite a daylight robbery of our collective sovereignty. This is not merely an abstract concept; it is our sacred duty and an urgent responsibility to actively safeguard this pillar from being seized, preventing an unparalleled heist of our democratic essence.
